Launch into the deep - 9/2/2025
In Luke 5 Jesus invites Simon Peter to "launch into the deep". Peter responds with "because you say so". As individuals, and as the people of God at Central Coast South UCA, will we hear Jesus' words and respond as Peter did?
Dove Tales Issue 30 – 9/2/2025
This Sunday, 9th February, we welcome Donna Knee, our Family and Community Worker, to Kincumber. We will also be dedicating the new Kincumber Roundabout Playgroup which commences on Wednesday 12th. Please pray for Jean Fletcher, for Donna, and for other helpers, and of course for the children who attend and their families.
Our first Zoom Prayer meeting for 2025 started on Friday 7th. It’s never too late to come along. Email Danielle in the Umina Church Office for the link.
On Friday 7th Teresa Read led the Communion service at Friday Family Church. She, Donna and I met earlier in the week to do some forward planning. Donna will now be in charge of Friday Family Church and of the Thursday morning BeeBay Playgroup (which recommences on Thursday 13th).
Many other groups will also resume meeting: the Kincumber Friendship Group on Tuesday 11th; Church Council at 5pm on Wednesday 12th at Umina; Coffee and Chat at Umina on Thursday 13th; and the Men’s Breakfast at Kincumber on Saturday 15th. Please pray for all who attend.
On 13th February I will be travelling to Griffith for the Induction of the Rev. Keps Vaka, formerly from Tuggerah Lakes South, on Saturday 15th. I will return home on Monday 17th. Please pray for Keps following the tragic drowning of Tevita, a 37-year-old Tongan parishioner. Tevita’s funeral is Saturday 8th.
The Gospel reading for Sunday is Luke 5:1-11. This is Luke’s account of Jesus calling His first disciples. After a night in which the seasoned fishermen have caught nothing, Jesus asks Peter to “launch into the deep” and lower his nets. Peter is inclined not to do so. He replies: “‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.’ (5:5).
I love those words: “because you say so”. When we give our hearts to Jesus, we are accepting Him as our Saviour (who died and rose for us) and Lord (our Boss). Peter submits to Jesus, who isn’t (yet) His Lord, and the result is a catch beyond the fishermen’s wildest imagination.
Jesus is Lord of this Church: Central Coast South UCA! He is asking us, both individually and as a fellowship of believers, to go out into the deep waters and lower out nets. What will be our response as this year continues to unfold?
