How have we, the people at Central Coast South UCA, launched into the deep?

Dove Tales Issue 31 – 16/2/2025

We rejoice that the new Kincumber Roundabout Playgroup began on Wednesday (12th). The Team welcomed 3 families and 4 children. It was a small but rich start.

Church Council also met on Wednesday 12th. Next week’s Dove Tales will include a report.

This Sunday, 16th February, I will be in the Riverina following the Induction of the Rev. Keps Vaka, formerly from Tuggerah Lakes South, into Griffith Uniting Church on Saturday 15th. I will return home on Monday 17th. Please pray for Keps and his family as he settles into his new Placement, and for my wife and I as we travel.

The Gospel reading for last Sunday was Luke 5:1-11. This is Luke’s account of Jesus calling His first disciples. After a night in which the seasoned fishermen have caught nothing, Jesus asks Peter to “Launch into the deep” and lower his nets. Peter replies: “‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.’ (5:5).  I said these words:

We, at Central Coast South, have been called to “Launch into the deep”. I am very proud that we’re doing that:

  • Becoming One Church meeting in two places
  • Inviting me to be your Supply Minister
  • Employing our Family and Community Worker
  • Beginning the new Roundabout Playgroup at Kincumber
  • Beginning a new evening Bible study in Woy Woy
  • Embarking on the “Season of Lent 2025” Taizé devotion on Sunday afternoons at Umina
  • Being wise stewards of the Property entrusted to our care, particularly 344 Ocean Beach Road and Tincknell Cottage
  • Embracing new technology and social media
  • Exploring a Healing service

That fulfils what I believe is God’s call found in Jeremiah 31:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. This will only come true as we Launch into the deep, as we acknowledge Jesus as Lord, as we face up to our fears hand in hand with Jesus, and as we ‘fish for people’ – even in daylight!

With hope and joy,

Rev. Frank (Van Der Korput)
